GoDaddy, once the dominant choice for domain registration, is facing a notable decline in new .com registrations, dropping to 583,099 in December 2024—a 7.6% dip from the previous year.
The company’s total .com domains under management also slipped by about 1.2 million year-over-year, now resting at 53.3 million.
Driving this downturn are rising prices for registrations and renewals, alongside growing frustration with GoDaddy’s persistent upsells and a complex user interface.
At the same time, competitors like Namecheap, Cloudflare, and Squarespace are luring customers with lower prices, streamlined platforms, and stronger privacy features—Namecheap alone posted an 18% rise in new .com registrations over the past year.
Though still a major industry player, GoDaddy faces mounting pressure to adjust its approach as customers now value efficiency, cost, and privacy more than ever.
